Jeekers Creepers

I just got back from Starbucks, where I received and unexpected glance from everybody near me when I ordered an iced coffee. Normally ordering such an icy beverage on May 26th wouldn't elicit much of a reaction, but given the current cold weather snap, that has been May in Boston, people shook their heads in confusion. Luckily I was quick on my feet and joked that it is only a few more weeks until spring starts, oops I mean summer. Phew I made it out of that one unscathed.

Well the 2004-2005 television season officially ended last night with Vaughn telling Sydney he was not really Vaughn, just before they were sideswiped. ABC did a good job this year of keeping lots of things up in the air, Lost was out of control, we basically learned nothing and were only more confused at the conclusion of its finale. Now I just have to wait four months to be teased a little bit more. I am looking forward to having my mornings and nights free and I am sure my VCR is looking forward to some much needed rest.

On Tuesday night Andy, Mark and I went to see Star Wars at Loews Boston Common. We showed up a half hour before the show and weren't able to find any seats together or apart for that matter and were forced to sit in the second row. Needless to say it was an interesting, neck bending experience. We sat through around 12 previews which took about 25 minutes before the movie started. As the words scrolled up the screen in typical Star Wars fashion we were so close we had to turn our heads back and forth, as if we were watching a tennis match. I did enjoy the movie and look forward to seeing it again with my neck in line with my torso and not tilted at a 60% angle from vertical.

Sitting in the second row made me think how seating is one of those situations where the definition of good is relative to the event or object. At a concert second row is fantastic, same with a sporting event, but not when it comes to the movies. Another one that goes either way is riding on a bus, apparently in the time of segregation the back was a bad place to be, but ask any kid on a school bus and he will tell you that is where all of the cool kids sit. Its similar to beverages, you want a coffee to be hot unless its iced coffee in which case you want it to be really cold. Milk needs to be cold, soda cold, tea hot, soup hot. It is amazing how much preference can be so different among such similar types of situations. Just a thought!!

Chocolate Lucky Charms

I just finished a bowl of Chocolate Lucky Charms and I am not impressed. They were just missing a real chocolate taste and ended up tasting a lot like regular Lucky Charms. Lately I haven't been eating "junk" cereal, but they were on sale at 66% off and I had never tried them before.

So I just had another weekend away from Somerville this time we spent the weekend at the Riebe's cabin in Vermont. I hopped on the train Friday afternoon and Jennifer picked me up at the Lawrence train station. A brief stop at McDonald's, a few hours of driving and we were at the cabin. It wasn't long before it was time to go to sleep. The next morning we woke up bright and early and had breakfast at around 6 AM. It was clearing in the morning and we just hung around doing not much of anything. Later in the day we actually did some work and lopped the trail all the way down to the stream.

We left for Somerville yesterday morning and drove back. The weather was crazy, it would rain like crazy for a few minutes and then it was sunny. I am really sick and tired of this rain, I can't believe it has rained the last three weekends in a row and doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. Could we please have spring?

The Best CD Ever (except for your choices)

Hi everybody,

It is finally time to make the CD we have always talked about at BoCaNO. For those of you not familiar with the CD I am speaking of here is a little background...

One night many years ago there was a discussion about songs that remind people of a bad time, person, situation or moment in your past. Now those songs could be songs that remind you of a past relationship, or that remind you of a shitty time in your life, or even songs that you used to love, but can't stand now. The theory is that most likely since you did like those songs at one time they are pretty good songs, but eventually you soured of them. Now if you took one or two of these songs from each person and put them on to a CD it would turn out to be a really good disc with the exception of the songs you contributed. We have talked about this CD in BoCaNO for years and I think it is time to actually make this dream a reality.

So think of one or two songs you used to throw down the windows and crank up the volume for, but now would rather just roll down the windows and throw out the radio.

Happy Birthday Amy

Last night to celebrate Amy's 30th birthday ten of us went on a Horizon's Edge Casino cruise out of Lynn. It was a great time. I did a little gambling, okay I basically spent four dollars on the slot machines and ended up with six dollars. The buffet was fantastic and I think everybody had a good time. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Mark, Kate, Andy, Jennifer and I battled the thick under brush with canoes in tow yesterday. It was a great time as always although there was one spot where the trees had all toppled over blocking our way. We made it through and finally had clear sailing from there on out.

The latest album by Dave Matthews Band has now been officially released. Pick it up at your nearest record store or at the iTunes music store. I have had a copy for a week or so and it might be the best album so far for the band, they definitely take it in a new direction.
